A building permit is required if you intend to build, expand, modify, move, demolish or change the occupancy of a building. Generally, a permit will be required if you erect, construct, alter, repair or improve a structure. Construction may begin once a required permit has been issued.

Every issued permit will require an inspection after the work has been completed. If a project fails an inspection, the problem must be corrected and must pass a re-inspection.  An additional fee is required for the re-inspection.

The minimum permit fee is $40.

Permit fees are determined by the improvement value or the square footage of the new construction:

Remodeling - improvement value x .005

New construction/addition - 13 cents a square foot

For commercial projects, a review fee is assessed equal to 15 percent of the permit fee

A park fee may be required based on the subdivision and history of the property.

The following projects do not require a permit:

Painting, papering, tiling, carpentry, cabinets.

Counter tops, similar finish work

Cosmetic

Work that requires a State License Contractor.

Electrical Contractor

A/C (mechanical) contractor

Plumbing Contractor
