A higher than normal water bill is due to a leak within the home plumbing, such as a running toilet. Make sure the water is turned off at all locations and then look at the red dial on the water meter. If the dial is spinning, water is flowing through the meter. Contact a plumber to help investigate where the water leak is occurring and have the problem fixed.
In Evanston, the water bill includes fees for water, sewer and sanitation charges. The sewer portion of the bill is high as a result of the City wide sewer improvement program.
