Evanston IL:There is standing water on my street/alley.

From PublicStuff Knowledge Base
Jump to: navigation, search

Water on the street is anticipated during a rain event and should recede within two hours after the rain has stopped. Water may rise to the curb level quickly, but after it reaches the curb, the water has a much greater area to spread out into, and the rate at which the water is rising should slow down.

If you are concerned that your vehicle will be flooded, you will want to move it to higher ground.

You may also check to see if there is any debris covering the drainage structure grate and if there is, try to remove it.

Finally, if the flooding is causing property damage, please complete a Street/Alley Flooding Service Request so we can get someone out to check out the situation. Also if after two hours beyond when the rain stops or slows down considerably, the street or alley is still flooded and shows no sign that the water is receding, please complete and submit the Street/Alley Flooding Service Request.
