Under state law feral cats are "wildlife." Evanston residents who are having problems with wildlife can rent traps from the City of Evanston and be covered with the State of Illinois under the City's permit.

Homeowners must place traps ONLY on their properties and check them daily. Homeowners must contact Animal Control after an animal is captured, and Animal Control will remove the trap for a $35 fee. Residents may contact Animal Control at (847) 866-5080 to borrow a trap for problem wildlife.

Alternatively, if you want the feral cats to be trapped, neutered and released on your property, you may contact C.A.R.E. (Community Animal Rescue Effort, a not-for-profit all-volunteer organization) at 847-705-2653 and ask for their assistance.
