Evanston IL:Should I get a home water filtration system?

From PublicStuff Knowledge Base
Jump to: navigation, search

Because the water utility tests the water on a continuous, 24/7 basis to meet and exceed all federal and state standards for water quality, the use of either a water softener or home filtration system is not necessary from a water quality perspective. Some residents find the odor of chlorine (which is used as a disinfectant as mandated by state law) objectionable and choose to use an activated carbon (charcoal) filter to remove the chlorine.

The only recommendation the utility has for those who wish to remove the chlorine is to follow the manufacturer's recommendation for maintaining the charcoal filter and changing it at the appropriate rate. Failure to replace the filter on a timely basis can result in poor water quality over time.
