Evanston IL:I have no water throughout my house, what should I do?

From PublicStuff Knowledge Base
Jump to: navigation, search

Water may be off in a single family dwelling (house) due to an internal plumbing problem, work occurring in the street, or because the water service was turned off for non-payment.

Internal plumbing problem:

If there is no hot water, this signifies a problem with the hot water heater.  A plumber should be contacted to resolve the issue.

If the lack of water is at only one faucet, this is an internal problem.  A suggestion is to clean the screen on the faucet by unscrewing it, cleaning it and putting it back on.  If unable to do this, contact a plumber.

Work occurring in the street

If there is no cold water at any faucet, contact 3-1-1 to see if there was a water shut-off email notification for your street or general area that might impact the water service.

Possible shut-off for non-payment

If there is no known work going on, service may have been disconnected to a past due water bill.  Please call 3-1-1 to confirm.

If the water was shut off due to non-payment, a payment (confirm with 3-1-1 the amount needed to restore service) made during business hours will restore service within 2 hours.

If a payment arrangement is needed, please submit a "Payment Arrangement" service request here: https://www.cityofevanston.org/how-to-/311/submit-a-request or call 3-1-1 for assistance.
