Evanston IL:How do I transfer my City Wheel Tax to another vehicle?

If you replace a car at any time during the year, a transfer of your annual wheel tax must be made by application to the City Collector, located on the first floor of 2100 Ridge Ave. A wheel tax is not transferable from one person to another. A copy of the new vehicle registration must be presented for a transfer. A wheel tax transfer cannot be processed online.

To change Vehicle Registration for an already paid Wheel Tax, or to convert from Temporary License Plate to Permanent you do not need to visit the Collector’s Office. You may scan and upload the supporting documentation including vehicle registration to citycollector@cityofevanston.org or fax 847-448-8122
