Most, but not all, businesses require licenses. Exceptions to this requirement include non/not for profit businesses and those businesses licensed in a professional capacity by the State of Illinois or federal government, e.g. physicians, attorneys, accountants, etc. All businesses that are: Not currently licensed under a state or federal law (such as beauty salons or medical facilities); not home based and operating for profit within the City limits must have a license from the city of Evanston to do business.
