Overview
The I Heart Evanston Trees campaign is committed to raising awareness and funds support the City of Evanston’s Forestry Division which is responsible for caring and maintaining the over 33,000 trees on public property. The Evanston Trees Art Contest is designed to bring Evanston artists together to celebrate the vibrancy of Evanston’s urban trees. Evanston’s trees provide innumerable benefits to residents and the beautiful City of Evanston. It is up to us to help care for them and ensure they have long healthy lives. Remember that helping a tree means helping you!
Eligibility
The I Heart Evanston Trees Art Contest is open to anyone who lives or works within the City of Evanston. Eligibility will be verified through the Entry Form. The contest is open to artists of all ages. Any student enrolled in D65 or D202 is eligible to participate.
Artwork
Acceptable media include water color, drawing, mixed media, photography and graphic design. All submissions must be horizontal digital images of the original artwork, see Submission for details. All artwork must be of a tree or trees within the City of Evanston. Artwork from all seasons of the year are strongly encouraged. All entries must contain copyright-free art or art released for entrant’s and public use. No unauthorized use of any copyright images, text, or other material will be accepted.
Entry Form
Youth artwork (15 and under) will be judged as one category whereas artwork submitted by residents 16 and older will be judged based on medium of the artwork. The form can be accessed by clicking the "Enter Here" button on the Contest website, click here. You will also find submission guidelines below. All entries must be submitted online. Entries are limited to 1 per contestant.
Submission
Rights to Artwork - Disclaimer
Artwork submissions become the property of the City of Evanston. The City of Evanston may photograph, telecast or otherwise reproduce the submitted contest artwork for activities including, but not limited to, archival, educational, catalogue and publicity purposes to promote the I Heart Evanston Trees campaign. The Artist(s) irrevocably consents to the reproduction and use of such artwork. The Artist(s) hereby acknowledges and agrees that the City of Evanston will be conducting the I Heart Evanston Trees campaign at no fee or charge ($0.00) and the Artist(s) has no expectation of recovery of a fee in the future from the City of Evanston. The Artist(s) hereby fully releases and discharges the City of Evanston, its officers, agents, attorneys, contractors, and employees from any and all claims, which may arise or which may be alleged to have arisen out of, or in connection with the publication or broadcasting of the submitted artwork by the City of Evanston.
Deadline for Entries
Entries will be accepted starting October 1st and accepted until 11:59 pm on October 20th. Entry times for submissions will be determined by the timestamp sent with the completion of the online Entry Form.
Judging
Judging will begin October 21st with winners being announced the week of November 3rd. Judges will select 13 winning entries and a number of honorable mentions. The 13 winning entries will be used in the I Heart Evanston Trees Calendar and the honorable mentions will be included on greeting cards sent out through the City of Evanston’s I Heart Evanston Trees campaign.
Prizes/Recognition
Prizes will be awarded to each of the 13 winning entries. Prizes will be determined by the contest sponsors. All winning artists will have their names publicly recognized on the City of Evanston’ webpage as well as their artwork used in fundraising material for the I Heart Evanston Trees campaign.
Calendars/Greeting Cards
Information on how to obtain calendars and greeting cards will be made available and published on the contest website shortly.
