Dockless bikes lock themselves and do not require a rack or station. Users of these bikes are encouraged to avoid blocking public rights of way or parking bicycles on residential properties, at bus stops or in alleyways.

Around April of 2018, additional companies started to operate shared/dockless services. The City of Tempe approved formal regulations on these vendors at the January 10, 2019 Council Meeting. The regulations include requirements for staging, education and safety, data sharing and fees. Vendors must submit an application prior to approval. There is a separate working group developing regulations for the riders. PD is currently citing riders that are obstructing general traffic violations such as wrong way riding and traffic signals.

Residents need to contact the appropriate vendor to report the problem. The operators (vendors) have dedicated staff to go out and re-stage once issues are reported:

Bird (black scooters) 1-866-205-2442 or hello@bird.co

Boaz Bikes (blue scooters) 1-800-621-4016 or info@boazbikes.com

Lime (green scooters) 1-888-546-3345 or help-tempe@li.me

If the concern has been reported, and is not posing a safety concern, vendors have 24 hours to re-stage.

GRID bike share bicycles are no longer available to rent in Tempe. The City is exploring options to meet the changing shared transportation needs of the community with upgraded technology and modernized system assets.
