The City of Evanston is responsible for the care of all parkway trees.

No one may trim, remove or plant a parkway tree unless a permit has been issued to a qualified tree trimmer or arborist by the Forestry Division. The cost of a permit is $50.00. Parkway plantings and tree care companies that are maintaining City trees at the request of the homeowner are not charged for a permit, however, they are still required to obtain a permit. Please allow at least 7 days for processing. If approved, the permit will be issued to the requester.

Include the following information in the permit request:

1.  Property address/location of the City owned tree(s) and the location of construction in relation to the tree(s). Adjacent tree(s) impacted by construction (located within the drip line of the tree(s) in question) shall also be included in the plan.

2.  Property owner name.

3.  Type of work to be performed.

4.   Type and size of tree or plantings.

5.  Name of any products or chemicals that will be used.

6.  A drawing for parkway plantings, if applicable.

7. If the request is for parkway planting, please attach the plant list if you do not have a formal plan. Plantings in the right of way shall be less than 3 feet tall at maturity.
